The WheelTug system enables aircraft to taxi on the ground without engines or tow tugs. This saves fuel, reduces engine and brake wear, eliminates current pushback risk and costs, and reduces ground times for aircraft.
The system consists of the main components:
- Electric motors in each of the nose wheels of an aircraft
- Control electronics in the electronics bay of an aircraft which are connected to power from APU
- Cockpit controls in the cockpit of an aircraft
